The internet sucks and I'm in a funk

So the internet crashed last night at my place leaving me high and dry. I can no longer check my blogs at work (even if I had time) and well with no internet to speak of I feel as if I am going through with draws.

Listening to: 18 Days by Saving Able

Watching: Bringing up Baby with Carey Grant and Katherine Hepburn (I totally spelled her name wrong I think) This was a really cute movie and one of my many weaknesses. (The other being black and white movies I LOVE THEM). This is about a geek who falls in love with the heiress who is chasing him. Grant is so cute as a scientist who doesn't have any excitement in his life until he meets Katherine's character. Really a sweet movie!!

Okay the funk part. (PS I am in the library so this should be entertaining, and part of the reasons why I am not checking other blogs. Don't want to be banned from this branch!)
Anywho I am in a reading/writing funk and have no idea why. Everytime I go to read something I get distracted. Nothing is holding my attention. And when you add to it that I am no longer interested in editing my WIP or even writing on something different, it makes me nervous.

I mean is this something everyone goes through or am I just in another funk? The only thing that seems to interest me right now is listening to music and watching TV which is beyond strange for me (not the listening to music thing but the TV thing.) Usually I can watch TV and focus on other things or I am able to just sit down and write.

I can't determine if it is due to the new schedule 10:30 am to 7:00 pm. I mean by the time I get home, work out and eat it is already 9 and I usually like to veg a little before I write. But lately when I get down vegging I just continue to watch TV or go to bed. THAT'S IT?!?!?! I tell ya it isn't normal.

So I ask you... what do you do to get out of a reading funk? What would you suggest I read or suggest i do?
For those of you who write have you ever been in this situation? What did you do to get out of it? Any suggestions?

I go through periods like that. I try for a radical change of genre. Hope the funk fades fast.

I went through a reading Funk last month. I picked up and started like five different books, even though i want to read them.. i lost interest. Took me a long while to settle on a book. It's very frustrating. Sadly I'm not sure how my funk ended. I finally found a book that caught my attention. I think reading reviews helped me a little bit. So, far this month it's been pretty good. Hope your funk doesn't last to long.

Like Charles said, try a different author or genre. I don't think I've ever got in a reading funk as such.

But after I read The Time Traveller's Wife I was so caught up in that story that I couldn't read anything else for a couple of weeks because I was still thinking about TTTW. LOL - maybe that's the definition of a funk.

I got out of it by doing a re-read of Slave to Sensation and then following it up with Moon Called and Blood Bound. So do you have any trusty favourites that don't let you down?

Sarai, so sorry to hear that. I think this happens to everybody. Sometimes, on the writing side, if I have a really productive week or expend a lot of energy, I sort of just have a distracted low energy for a few days or week after that. I think it can be cyclical. Also, not to be TMI, but certain times of the month I'm muddle headed and distracted. I think the best thing to do is not to force yourself out of it, but to go with it. Like watching a fine old movie!

Hi Sarai!!! I've missed you!

You have been going through some really significant changes in your life right now, so don't be too discouraged with your lack of enthusiasm with reading or writing. I'm sure it will come back.

With that being said, however, I know how much writing is important to you. Maybe you can make a promise to yourself to write several hours on Saturday and Sunday, giving yourself the workweek to focus on work, sleep and taking care of other business.

As far as reading goes, how about picking up a favorite book and doing a reread. Or just pick one series and read it straight through. Something like Kenyon's Dark Hunters might work. They're entertaining, sexy, and easy to read and focus on. Maybe that will help you get your groove back.

Good luck! =)

Aww, so sorry you're going through this. You're definitely not alone. I think we've all been through this! Your life has undergone some crazy changes lately so maybe your brain is finally catching up and you just need a break. I wish I had solid advice, but if I'm in a funk, the only thing that usually works for me as far as getting motivated to write (don't laugh) is excercise. Maybe it's all those endorphins *shrugs*

As far as your reading funk, everyone's got good advice. Maybe try a new genre :)

Hugs!!!

Hi, Sarai!!

That's happening to me right now - I've got a TBR pile yet nothing I really want to read.

Sometimes just taking a break from reading or reading an old favorite works.

In any case, I hope you get out of your funk and your internet back soon! :)

Hi Sarai
So did you get out of your reading funk?

When I checked out your blog and saw all the great suggestions I didn't offer any because I would only have been repeating what everyone else said. I hope things worked out for you.
